Which has allowed artistic freedom, and which is profitable? I have a lot of ideas that I need to rope in for future endeavors, so any advice is much appreciated!
Interesting that you bring that up. I have over 30 years experience in sales and advertising in various endeavors throughout my life. When I decided to be a personal trainer, I thought it would be easy getting off the ground. BOY was I wrong. So far this has been the hardest kind of a business to get off the ground. Here it is, 1.5 years later I am still struggling.
I live in South Florida. Where you have more gyms and trainers in a square mile than probably any place else (or pretty close to it) I was almost at 6 clients just before the stock market failure, and the downturn. Now I only have one left. I have not signed a client in over three months.
I looked at employment at gyms, but the going rate is 6 to 8.00 per half hour, and the time you spend on the floor looking for clients is for free. Most of the clients that I did see working in a gym, (my opinion only, where forced to be it this business for the money, not for the skill or satisfaction of being a good trainer) I have a brand new web site, mcmfitness.com, (try it out and let me know what you think) I have done, emails, direct mail, writing articles, newspaper adds, special adds in special papers, public speaking, word of mouth, referral cards, etc etc etc. Still I only have one client.,
Think hard and long, this is a hard time to start your own business,.
The better jobs, are looking for four year degrees. I don't have that.
I am a fabulous trainer in my own right. I almost always bring success to my clients. I have a long and experienced background in business and promotion, and so far I have failed.
PS any ideas would be appreciated.
